GOURD CROWN OF THORNS

A uniquely shaped gourd that resembles a ten pointed crown. Will produce many beautiful colors that are orange, white, yellow, lime green and dark green and are stripped or bicolor. Smooth and hard when mature with a long shelf life. Packet illustration is only a guide to contents.

Sow 5 seeds evenly spaced in hills, 8 inches high and 12 inches across. Young vines should have a fence, trellis or heavy cord on which to climb. When young vines are about 8 inches, thin to 3 plants per hill. Does not transplant well.

To dry gourds, wait until fruit is fully developed and hard enough to pick from the vines. Pick before frost. To preserve, avoid brushing and wash thoroughly. Store in a dry, well-ventilated place until thoroughly dried out and hard. Can then be waxed or painted.
